25 THINGS
5.21.2007

...never too late, right?

25 things i learned in my first year at college

1. yes, you will make new friends.
2. quarters for laundry are a very valuable commodity, and have a high resale rate.
3. it's a really good idea to get to know a few people outside of your major or program. (they'll be the only contact with the outside world you'll get.)
4. making your own meals, especially with friends, is a lot of fun. (and it saves you some... eh, i won't get into that.)
5. parallel fifths are a massive no-no. obviously.
6. you and only you control your decisions.
7. inside jokes from home don't jive well with people who don't understand them.
8. the reintroduction of inside jokes from home that already exist on campus in a different form or with a slight variation might bring you ridicule, albeit lighthearted ridicule.
9. creativity is encouraged, but don't look like an idiot in the process.
10. ...except when you're making up a presentation on the absolute fly. then looking like an idiot is par for the course.
11. practice is a necessary thing.
12. practice doesn't make perfect, practice makes permanent.
13. practice is an eight-letter word, which is the equivalent of two four-letter words.
14. the more you sweat in practice, the less you bleed in battle.
15. college life is so much easier if you're organized.
16. ...although sticking to a schedule can sometimes get tough when free time beckons.
17. college is a mix of all sorts of people from different places, with different backgrounds. that's something you just gotta appreciate.
18. food (from off-campus) is a magnet for people at any social event you're planning.
19. tai otoshi can lead to many different armbars and alternative throws, if all else fails.
20. getting to know your professors really helps, especially if you're going to be spending four years with them.
21. impulse buying at the local store can lead to some fun times.
22. yes, the walls have ears, but sadly, the adage neglects the fact that the walls also have mouths.
23. as someone (and i wish i could remember who, because i'd really love to cite them personally) once told me, "in high school, everything kinda 'winds down' to the end. in college, you accelerate until you hit the brick wall."
24. knowing when to say "no" is an important skill to learn.
25. keeping in touch with your friends with away is good. very good.

questions? comments? actually never mind, the email account is dead. sorry!

wanna know why? i'll give you 25 good reasons.
